Research says pure electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

According to different power sources, electric vehicles can generally be divided into hybrid vehicles, pure electric vehicles and fuel powered lithium battery vehicles. So who will become the future of electric vehicles?

In a new study, researchers from the United States and Germany compared pure electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles and found that, in terms of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, pure electric vehicles have more advantages than hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles, and are a more environmentally friendly and economic option.

Stanford University announced in a communique on the 14th that, in order to study which type of electric vehicle has more environmental and economic advantages, the university, in cooperation with researchers from Munich University of Technology in Germany, selected Los Altos Hills Town, Santa Clara County, northern California, as the research object, and speculated on the popularity of new energy vehicles, related infrastructure construction and solar energy use in the town in the next 10 to 20 years, The computer model specially developed by Thomas Hamahel, a professor of Munich University of Technology, is used for simulation.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

This sunny town currently has about 8000 residents. The solar power generation is very prominent in Santa Clara County, and the car ownership is also the highest in California. Researchers speculate that in the next 10 to 20 years, pure electric and hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles will be more widely used in the local area, and by 2035, electric vehicles will account for about 38% of the total local transportation vehicles. At that time, the hydrogen fuel used by the local hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles will be prepared by using the cheapest local electricity, which is important to supply solar power or the grid.

The researchers input the above conjecture into the computer model together with the total amount of energy required for a day in Los Altos Hills Town and the cost of building electric vehicle related infrastructure. The simulation analysis shows that pure electric vehicles perform better than hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles in reducing carbon emissions. In order to be competitive in overall cost, the price of hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles must be much lower than that of pure electric vehicles. However, the reality is that in the foreseeable future, hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles will be much more expensive than pure electric vehicles.

Previous studies believed that the surplus clean energy stored in hydrogen supplement facilities related to hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles could be used for building heating, lighting, etc. According to the latest research, only a small part of hydrogen stored in the above form can be used for heating and lighting of buildings in 2035, so the environmental and economic benefits of hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles in this regard are not reflected.

The researchers said that although they simulated a small town in northern California, the results also apply to many sunny communities in California. They hope to expand the research object to a larger community in the future, and add other factors that may affect consumers' choice of pure electric vehicles or hydrogen fuel powered lithium battery vehicles to the research.

Matthew Pello, who participated in the study, said that the study provides objective and data supported analysis to help policymakers in California and other places understand which technology path is more advantageous in coping with climate change.
