Quality and improvement of power lithium battery industry -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

This week, the industry held two forums related to new energy vehicles. On June 27, the "2018 China (Qinghai) Lithium Industry and Power Lithium Ion Battery International Summit Forum" was held in Qinghai, and the next day, the "Hydrogen Energy Industry Development and Innovation Forum" was held in Beijing. Both forums focused on the power source of new energy vehicles in the future. Whether it is power lithium ion battery or hydrogen fuel power lithium battery, it has the opportunity to become a new favorite instead of fuel.

However, the National Development Energy Research Institute and the Green Energy Think Tank found that from the perspective of the current development status of hydrogen fuel powered lithium batteries, there are still many difficulties to overcome on the road to mass production. The top priority is how to make a breakthrough in power lithium ion batteries made of lithium as an important material and assume the mission of rapid development of new energy vehicles.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

Competitive pressure from the world

According to statistics, the total sales of new energy vehicles in China exceeded 50% of the global share, reaching 777000 units last year, up 53.3% year on year. The Green Energy Think Tank predicts that this year the number may exceed one million, and by 2020, the sales volume of new energy vehicles is expected to reach 2 million. At that time, the demand for power lithium-ion battery, the heart of new energy vehicles, will reach 88GWh.

Although the power lithium ion battery industry has a very broad market space in the future, the competition among companies is very fierce at present. Domestic battery companies face not only competition among compatriots, but also competition with leading companies from Japan and South Korea. Although China has the most complete power lithium-ion battery industry chain in the world, and its market size is also in the forefront. The global market of power lithium-ion batteries in China has more than 60% of the global shipments, but Japan and South Korea have advantages in technology research and development and manufacturing processes. In 2017, among the top ten global power lithium-ion batteries, Panasonic of Japan, LG of South Korea, Samsung and other companies were among them, and some companies even accounted for more than 10% of the market share.

It can be seen that for domestic power lithium-ion battery companies, winning in quantity is only a phased achievement, and how to continuously improve quality and technology is the key to winning in the future.

Chen Qingtai, the president of China's Electric Vehicle Hundred People's Association, pointed out that "China will become the main battlefield of power lithium-ion battery competition. Although European and American companies have lost their position in this round of competition, they are already making plans for the next stage of competition and are potential strong competitors."

The domestic market competition is also very fierce. Relevant data shows that from 2015 to 2017, the number of power lithium-ion battery supporting companies in China has dropped from about 150 to about 100, and 1/3 of the companies have been eliminated. The head effect of power lithium-ion battery companies has been very obvious. The market share of the top five power lithium-ion battery companies with installed capacity was 61% in 2017, and it has risen to 71% by 2018.

Control the lifeline of raw materials

The market demand for power lithium-ion batteries is increasing, but increasingly scarce raw material resources have affected the development of the industry. As China is not a rich mining area for power lithium-ion battery raw materials, it is not easy for companies to take the initiative. Although China is rich in lithium mineral resources, cobalt and nickel resources are relatively scarce, which has seriously affected the reduction of the production cost of power lithium-ion batteries. In recent years, under the dual pressure of the continuous rise in the price of raw materials and the continuous decline of national subsidies, many battery companies hope to seize raw material resources overseas.
