Power lithium battery recycling is difficult -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

The first batch of power lithium battery recycling has come, and in 2018, it will enter the stage of large-scale scrapping of power lithium batteries. Since the beginning of this year, major recycling companies have accelerated their staking, and by binding leading car companies and battery manufacturers, they have seized the recycling entrance and increased their market share.

However, from the current situation, the recycling of retired power lithium batteries is still in the exploratory stage, and most recycling companies make little profit or even lose money. The high cost of recycling and manufacturing combined with the falling price of new batteries has made the cascade utilization of batteries a deadlock.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

Industry insiders believe that the key to breaking the deadlock is to reasonably determine recycling pricing, standardize and modularize battery design, and match recycling scenarios from the design source.

Bind the recycling channel

Building a recycling system is a crucial part of the power lithium battery recycling process.

"Traditional waste lead-acid battery recycling is in a small and scattered state, most of which are lost in informal channels, and the entire life cycle from scrapping, processing, and element recovery is basically uncontrollable. Power lithium battery recycling cannot repeat the same mistakes, and a recycling system should be built from the national strategic level. Prevent out-of-control pollution." Lin Zhongjun pointed out.

The intensive introduction of recycling management policies reflects the urgency of establishing a recycling system. In January 2017, the General Office of the State Council promulgated the Implementation Method of the Extended Producer Responsibility System, requiring electric vehicle and power lithium battery production companies to be responsible for establishing a waste battery recycling network. In March this year, seven ministries and commissions jointly announced the "Interim Measures for the Administration of Recycling and Utilization of New Energy Vehicle Power Batteries", requiring automobile production companies to assume the main responsibility for power battery recycling. The measure will take effect from August 1 this year.

Relevant policies are about to be implemented. Under the dual-purpose of huge market temptation and the responsibility of recycling main body, car companies and battery factories have started to deploy battery recycling business, speeding up the staking and binding of recycling channels.

On January 4, 16 vehicle and battery companies including Changan, BYD, Yinlong New Energy and my country Tower Company, a major power lithium battery recycling company, reached a cooperation to solve the recycling and reuse of retired power lithium batteries; in March, SAIC Motor The Group and CATL signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation to jointly promote the recycling and reuse of power lithium batteries for new energy vehicles. CATL has acquired Bangpu Technology in 2013 to enter the field of power lithium battery recycling; on May 8, GEM announced and signed the "Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on Recycling and Utilization of Decommissioned Power Lithium Batteries" with Beijing BAIC Penglong, a subsidiary of BAIC Group.

"For car companies and battery manufacturers, this move is more to fulfill the main responsibility of recycling. But for recycling companies, the important thing for strategic cooperation is to bind the channel and seize the recycling entrance. This is the key to the recycling of power lithium batteries. An important part." Zhao Xiaoyong said.

Judging from the current situation, the battery recycling market is mainly dominated by third-party companies. Analysts at GF Securities believe that third-party companies rely on cooperation with car companies to control recycling channels. For example, Hunan Bangpu and BMW/CATL, GEM and BYD, Jiangxi Highpower and BAIC New Energy.

"Can we find a better way without cooperating with automakers? By cooperating with automakers, batteries can be quickly returned to the recycling plant." Xu Kaihua emphasized that establishing cooperative relationships with top-ranked large automakers can compete in the follow-up market increase market share.

In addition to car companies, recycling companies have accelerated their cooperation with power lithium battery manufacturers, including power lithium battery manufacturers among the partners of Qiantai and Saidemei.
