New type battery for carbon storage energy in Zhejiang University -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

Xia Xinhui, a research team from the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University, has developed the first high-energy density lithium sulfur battery based on mold spore carbon technology. They have introduced mold spore carbon fermented by waste fruits and vegetables into the energy field as energy storage materials, and obtained a high-energy density battery with a specific capacity three times higher than the best battery on the market. It is expected to solve the problem of the endurance of electric vehicles for long-distance driving in the future, in addition to cost It has many advantages in terms of service life. This achievement was recently reported by the world material journal Advanced Materials.

"Lithium sulfur battery is a new type of battery with high energy density. It uses sulfur as the positive electrode and metal lithium as the negative electrode, and its theoretical capacity is far greater than the current commercial lithium battery." Xia Xinhui introduced that sulfur has high capacity density and sufficient energy, and is considered as the next generation battery material. However, there is a fatal disadvantage of sulfur alone, that is, the sulfur itself is insulated, and the intermediate products of the reaction will dissolve in the electrolyte and cause losses.

For a long time, the scientific community has been looking for a host for sulfur to fix the sulfur element, and the research of Xia Xinhui's team started from this. Out of curiosity, they did an experiment with two rotten oranges and accidentally opened the research direction. The researchers first cultured the mold through fermentation, then optimized its structure by using nickel's pore forming ability, and then prepared a new mold spore carbon/nano nickel phosphide composite after high-temperature carbonization. Then it is fused with sulfur element. At 155 ℃, sulfur is melted and mixed with carbon material in a molten state. The sulfur carried enters the host.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

The research results show that this new mold spore carbon/nano nickel phosphide benefits from its high porosity, high conductivity, large specific surface area and multiple sulfur storage sites, and can conduct physical/chemical dual adsorption on intermediate products, which can greatly improve the battery performance. Not only that, if waste food, fruits and vegetables can be re fermented and reused to prepare mold spore carbon materials, it can also realize waste utilization and generate good economic benefits.
