Lithium battery recycling needs to break through -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

The lithium battery pack recycling market is not ideal, and five bottlenecks need to be broken through. The lithium battery pack is the peak period for recycling and reuse this year, but there is no perfect solution for the recycling and reuse of lithium batteries, resulting in many batteries wasting a lot of renewable resources. How to safely recycle and environmental protection treatment, and strengthen the standardized recycling of waste power batteries, has become a problem.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

The reuse and recycling of lithium battery packs will bring huge economic income to the new energy market. China's power batteries will usher in a "wave of scrapping", with the scrapping volume exceeding 248 thousand tons by 2020. Due to the limitations of technology and frequency of use, the designed effective service life of lithium trams used in China's new energy vehicles is about 3 years, and they need to be replaced after 3 years. 2018 is the first year for the recycling of lithium battery packs for new energy vehicles, and China's new energy vehicle power batteries will enter the stage of large-scale retirement.

Five bottlenecks encountered by lithium battery pack need to be broken through:

1、 Uncertain recycling mode of lithium battery pack

Despite the difficult start, the prospect is generally optimistic in the industry. In general, the current large-scale "retirement tide" of power batteries has not yet arrived, and it is difficult to form large-scale effects for the disassembly and recycling of power batteries.

For example, some auto enterprises choose to cooperate with other companies to promote domestic power battery recycling and other related matters. Sixteen vehicle and battery enterprises, including Chang'an, BYD and Yinlong New Energy, have reached cooperation with China Tower Corporation, a major power battery recycling company, to solve the problem of recycling retired power batteries. However, the overall recycling mode has not been determined.

2、 The lithium battery pack recycling body is missing

According to the characteristics of power batteries and the principle of recycling, China currently advocates the principle of recycling retired power batteries first and then scrapping and recycling, and requires vehicle enterprises as the main body of power battery recycling to assume the responsibility of power battery recycling. However, since most vehicle enterprises are only "assembly plants" of electric vehicles, and the batteries are provided by special lithium battery pack enterprises, there is a phenomenon that three main bodies of power battery recycling coexist: the first is vehicle enterprises; The second category is battery manufacturers; The third category is power battery scrap recycling enterprises and raw material enterprises.

According to the regulations, auto enterprises should bear the main responsibility of recycling, but auto enterprises are not omnipotent. To some extent, automobile enterprises are more like "assembly plants" of electric vehicles. They are specialized in the normal use of lithium battery packs, production, supply, secondary utilization and recycling during the warranty period. Unfortunately, battery enterprises are often excluded from the recycling system, and the responsibility is not clear at present.

3、 The technical bottleneck of lithium battery pack recycling needs to be broken

Due to the complex composition, power battery recycling faces many restrictions and high technical threshold. The types, specifications, processes, etc. of retired batteries are quite different, and the types of series and parallel connection groups, application models, service time and working conditions are diverse, resulting in complex disassembly. At the same time, China has not issued a unified standard for power batteries, so it is difficult to concentrate on large-scale utilization.

From the perspective of recycled batteries alone, even for lithium battery packs, the cathode materials are various, including lithium cobalate, lithium manganate, lithium nickel cobalt manganate, lithium iron phosphate, etc. Leaching with acid and alkali solution, and then extracting metal oxides through various chemical processes. However, the extraction conditions of these oxides are different, and the mixed liquid is more difficult.

4、 Insufficient support and binding force of policies and regulations

The insiders said that China has formulated the Technical Policy for the Prevention and Control of Hazardous Waste Pollution and the Technical Policy for the Prevention and Control of Waste Battery Pollution. In 2016, the National Development and Reform Commission took the lead in formulating the Technical Policy for the Recycling and Utilization of New Energy Automotive Power Batteries.
