Japanese companies develop light-duty lithium-sulfur batteries -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

After electric vehicles, the concept of electric aircraft has also entered people's field of vision. So what kind of batteries should the plane carry?

According to Japanese media news on November 16, Japanese battery company GSYUASA and Kansai University have jointly developed a light-weight high-energy-density lithium-sulfur battery with a mass and energy density that can reach nearly that of existing lithium batteries. double.

Relevant data show that a high energy density lithium-sulfur battery is a battery with sulfur as the positive active material. Theoretically speaking, under the same size, the capacity of lithium-sulfur battery can reach 8 times that of traditional lithium battery, but there are problems such as low conductivity and easy dissolution of intermediate products in electrolyte.

The lithium-sulfur battery developed this time has a capacity of 8 amp-hours (that is, ampere-hours). Due to the use of microporous carbon particles, it not only improves the electrical conductivity, but also makes the intermediate products insoluble in the electrolyte, which overcomes the problem of daily use. .(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

At present, the mass energy density of lithium batteries commonly used in pure electric vehicles is about 200 to 300 watt hours per kilogram, while the mass energy density of the lithium-sulfur battery developed this time exceeds 370 watt hours per kilogram. Jace Yuasa hopes to increase the mass energy density of its lithium-sulfur batteries to 500 watt-hours per kilogram by 2023.

This research is part of Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Electric Aircraft Project to develop a lightweight, high-capacity battery that can be installed on electric aircraft. It is currently promoting research on important technologies with the goal of reaching an energy density of 1,000 watt-hours per kilogram by 2030.

"We hope to bring high-energy-density lithium-sulfur batteries to the world. This battery material will have great use in the future. The development of electric aircraft will definitely be faster and faster in the future." Jishi Yuasa said.

According to the "Electric Aircraft Market 2030 Forecast" report recently released by SDReports, due to the accelerated deployment of urban air traffic aircraft and the successful use of electric aircraft in multi-mission scenarios, the global electric aircraft market will reach US$7.9 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach 27.7 billion in 2030. USD, the compound annual growth rate reached 14.8%. Japan Yuasa Co., Ltd. was established in 1918. In April 2004, it merged with Japan Battery and changed its name to Japan Jishi Yuasa Co., Ltd. (a group company). It is a leader in the battery industry in Asia. In recent years, it has vigorously developed and manufactured special-purpose batteries and power supplies, and supplied high-performance and high-quality batteries in special environments such as ocean, land, and so on.

In 2015, Jishi Yuasa acquired Panasonic's battery business for 30 billion yen (equivalent to RMB 1.566 billion) to obtain the production and sales business of batteries for automobiles, pure electric vehicles and industrial use.

In 2016, the International Space Station was equipped with a high-performance lithium battery for aerospace developed and manufactured by Jieshi Yuasa. Compared with the batteries currently equipped, this lithium battery developed by Kishi Yuasa has three times higher energy density, so only 24 batteries can achieve the current capacity of 48 batteries.

In 2017, Jishi Yuasa announced the construction of a new automotive lead-acid battery factory in Tianjin, my country, which will double the annual output to 8 million, with an investment of 17.5 billion yen, and the factory covers an area of 180,000 square meters.
