New all-vanadium redox flow battery stack -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

Chinese scientists have successfully developed a new generation of low-cost, high-power all-vanadium redox flow battery stacks -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics") announced on the 11th that a research team led by researchers Li Xianfeng and Zhang Huamin has recently successfully developed a new generation of low-cost, high-power all-vanadium redox flow battery.

The inherent randomness, intermittency, volatility, and difficulty of direct grid connection of renewable energy such as wind energy and solar energy limit the development and utilization of renewable energy to a certain extent. All-vanadium redox flow battery is a cost-effective, high-energy-efficiency, and long-life scale energy storage technology, which can store unstable renewable energy and realize stable output and utilization.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

After testing, when the stack is operated at a constant power of 30 kW, its energy efficiency exceeds 81%, and the capacity of 100 cycles has no attenuation.

According to reports, the all-vanadium redox flow battery energy storage system is composed of electric stacks, electrolyte solutions, piping systems, etc., among which electric stacks play a vital role. Compared with the traditional all-vanadium redox flow battery stack, the weldable porous ion-conducting membrane used in the new-generation stack can improve ion selectivity and increase the capacity retention rate of the electrolyte. In addition, the cost of the porous ion-conducting membrane is much lower than commercial The perfluorinated sulfonic acid membrane can greatly reduce the cost of the stack.

"By applying the self-developed weldable porous ion-conducting membrane, we have improved the assembly process of the battery stack." Li Xianfeng, a researcher at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, said that the new generation of all-vanadium redox flow battery stacks not only maintains the traditional stack. High power density, compared with traditional stacks, its total cost is also reduced by 40%.

According to Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, the successful development of a new generation of vanadium redox flow battery stack will greatly reduce the cost of all vanadium redox flow battery system and promote the industrial application of vanadium redox flow battery. The above-mentioned work has been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of my country, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and other strategic pilot technology projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
