"Breathable" high-density super large lithium battery -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment
"Lithium air batteries are light in weight and have a large storage capacity. Many people hope to use them in electric vehicles in the future," said Dr. Nishiyanzhi of Sanchong University in Japan
The important difference between lithium ion battery and lithium air battery is that the latter replaces the traditional negative plate, the key component of the battery for current flow, with air. This makes the metal air rechargeable battery lighter, which can store more energy.
The important component that researchers are studying is the electrolyte of the battery, which can conduct electricity between electrodes. There are four electrolyte designs, one of which uses water. The advantage of this "water containing" design over other designs is that it can prevent lithium from interacting with the gas in the air and enable the air electrode to react quickly. The disadvantage is that direct contact between water and lithium will damage lithium.
It is understood that the actual energy density of this system exceeds 300Wh/kg, while the commercial lithium ion battery is only about 150Wh/kg.
