BAIC New Energy develops core technologies -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

Recently, the reporter learned through relevant channels that BAIC New Energy, a subsidiary of BAIC Group, will soon equip its two strategic models, Senova EV and EV200 electric vehicles with brand-new ternary lithium batteries produced in cooperation with SK. In May 2014, the EV200 electric vehicle unveiled at the Beijing International Auto Show is a major remodel of the previous generation E150EV. The Senova EV is an electric version of the Senova gasoline vehicle that was introduced by BAIC from Sweden's Saab and domestically produced.

In October of this year, the reporter has already conducted a preemptive evaluation of the EV200 electric vehicle. With the cruising range increasing to 240 kilometers (the actual cruising range is 210 kilometers), the EV200, which is mainly for the household market, has been put into production. The fist product that Chenchenfeng competes with. The battery replaced is a ternary lithium battery supplied by Beijing Electronic Control Aisikai Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as BESK), a joint venture established by BAIC and South Korea's SK.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

So far, the Senova EV electric vehicle has undergone three revisions, and it has finally been finalized and mass-produced. The first version of the Saab EV uses a Saab 93 chassis with Pride battery packs and electric motors, and its cruising range is only 130 kilometers. The second version of the Saab EV adopts the Saab D320 body interior and suspension (the prototype is Saab 95) produced by Zhao Quanying, Shunyi, Beijing. The third version of Senova EV, which is the final mass-produced version (the first 50 vehicles became APEC-designated vehicles), was replaced with a ternary lithium battery, and the cruising range was increased to 220-240 kilometers.

Now, BAIC New Energy's EV200 and Senova EV electric vehicles will all be equipped with ternary lithium batteries produced by BESK. The battery pack mounted on the Senova EV electric vehicle is composed of 94 battery pads, with a capacity of 34 kWh. The overall weight of the battery is 20 kg less than that of the previous-generation Senova EV battery. After the replacement of battery components, Senova EV will be given priority to supply to government agencies at all levels in Beijing, and become a government vehicle that complies with the central government's directive for the development of the new energy industry.

BESK was jointly invested by BAIC Group, Beijing Electronic Controls and South Korea's SKI Company with a joint investment of RMB 1 billion. It was completed in Beijing Yizhuang in December 2013. In August 2014, the ternary lithium battery components supplied by BESK were installed in the third version of Senova EV. After testing, the new Senova EV has the ability to be mass-produced and marketed at the end of September.

The third version of the Saab EV has a top speed of 160 km/h, an actual cruising range of 220-240 km, and a fast charging time of 2 hours (using fast charging piles). The actual cruising range of the EV200 electric vehicle is also hovering at 200-220 kilometers. In the author's opinion, these two key models of BAIC New Energy have solved the congenital deficiency of "short legs" caused by weak battery components for the first time. The relevant test manuscripts will be released on another date.

From a technical point of view: BAIC and SK cooperate in the production of ternary lithium batteries, and the technical starting point is higher than that of non-BYD-produced iron phosphate batteries commonly used by other domestic car manufacturers. Due to the full automation of the production line, the production process level and product quality uniformity are always consistent with the original Korean SK factory. This has greatly improved the vehicle competitiveness of BAIC New Energy's Senova EV and EV200 (compared to the previous Senova EV and E150EV).

From the market point of view: BAIC New Energy adopts ternary lithium battery, not only in one step technically, but will also use it as a selling point in the market, focusing on the high performance and reliability of the product. In the domestic market, when iron phosphate battery technology has developed to the extreme, BAIC's new approach can also be regarded as the first step with its own R&D characteristics.

According to the cooperation agreement between BAIC and SK, while introducing the production line and production technology of SK Company, the film and raw materials produced by the original factory will be transported to the joint venture factory in Beijing for final assembly. The battery PAD is produced according to the technical specifications proposed by BAIC New Energy, and then integrated into battery modules in series and parallel. After multiple inspections, it is supplied to BAIC New Energy for integration into Senova EV and EV200.
